Lesson Notes

learn.tuxcode.net includes a built-in note-taking feature that lets you jot down key points, personal reminders, and insights while studying lessons.

Taking Notes

While reading any lesson, you will see a notes panel that you can expand on the right side of the screen (or below the content on mobile). Here is how to use it:

  1. Open the notes panel by clicking the notebook icon in the lesson toolbar.
  2. Type your note. You can use basic formatting: bold, italic, bullet lists, and code blocks.
  3. Notes auto-save as you type — no need to click a save button.

Why Take Notes?

Research consistently shows that writing things down in your own words improves retention. Simply highlighting or re-reading is less effective. When you rephrase a concept in your notes, you are actively processing it.

Organizing Your Notes

  • Notes are tied to specific lessons. When you revisit a lesson, your notes from previous sessions are already there.
  • Search your notes. Use the search bar in the notes panel to find notes across all lessons.
  • Export notes. You can export all your notes for a certification as a text file from your dashboard — useful for last-minute review before the exam.

Note-Taking Tips

  1. Summarize, do not copy. Restate concepts in your own words rather than copying lesson text verbatim.
  2. Write questions. If something is unclear, write a question in your notes. Come back to it after studying more.
  3. Connect ideas. Note how a concept in one lesson relates to something you learned in another.
  4. Flag tricky topics. Mark notes with a star or "REVIEW" tag for concepts you want to revisit before exam day.

Do I Need an Account?

Yes. Notes require a logged-in account because they are saved to your profile. Without an account, the notes feature is not available. Creating an account is free and takes less than a minute — see How to Create an Account.
