Skill Diagnostic Assessment

Not sure where to start? The Skill Diagnostic is a short assessment that evaluates your current IT knowledge and recommends the best certification for your level.

How It Works

The diagnostic consists of 30 questions spanning multiple IT domains:

  • Hardware and troubleshooting (A+ level)
  • Networking fundamentals (Network+ level)
  • Security concepts (Security+ level)
  • Cloud basics (Cloud Practitioner / AZ-900 level)
  • Linux fundamentals (Linux+ level)

Questions range from beginner to intermediate difficulty. The assessment takes approximately 15–20 minutes.

What You Get

After completing the diagnostic, you receive:

  1. A recommended certification — Based on your scores, the system suggests the certification that best matches your current level. If you already know the basics, it will not send you back to A+.
  2. A domain-level breakdown — See how you scored in each IT domain to understand your strengths and gaps.
  3. A suggested learning path — Based on your results and stated career goals, the system recommends a full learning path.

When to Take It

  • Before your first certification — If you are new to the platform and unsure where to begin.
  • After a career break — If you have been away from IT for a while and want to see where your knowledge stands.
  • When considering a new path — If you are thinking about switching from, say, networking to cybersecurity, the diagnostic can show whether you are ready.

Is It Graded?

The diagnostic is not pass/fail. It is purely a placement tool designed to save you time by pointing you to the right starting certification. Your results are private and do not affect your profile, badges, or Exam Readiness Score.

Retaking the Diagnostic

You can retake the diagnostic at any time. As you study and earn certifications, your results will naturally improve, and the recommendation may change to reflect your growth.

Access

The Skill Diagnostic is available from the Courses page. Look for the "Not sure where to start?" banner at the top. No account is required.
